Yeah, I can check out a lot faster, enter my military discount, and don't have to talk to anyone. Win, win they way I see it. They should hire a twice retired boomer to run a boomer only lane. My parents would love it. Some folks wouldn't believe what they've done to gas stations.... heck at the one i go to they still stand behind you at self check out and want o show you how, i just tell them to back off

These [bleep] companies want you to give them your money and make YOU work to give it to them. I walk out when I see its self checkout. I really hope you don’t consider scanning some items and swiping a card “work”. My goodness

Several years ago, they caught a guy here at the Home Depot trying to steal a bunch of tools. He loaded up a cart with expensive tools, then tore a UPC tag off of something worth about $7. He had the tag in his palm. He'd pretend to scan something expensive but actually scan the tag in his hand. He got caught because he got greedy. The computer flagged it when he scanned too many of the same item.

The Walmart in Williston, I heard was doing away with most of their self checkouts. Too much theft.

Yeah the urban shoppers have. 😂 They are probably trying to decide what’s worse. Urban shoppers boosting a high percentage of goods or paying someone to train a cashier that will last about 6 months, paying a loss prevention employee to watch cashier to make sure they arent stealing, and pay and employee to count the register at the beginning and end of each shift.

Here is another fact that will have heads exploding. The average cash transaction costs the establishment 9% compared to 3.5 % for a cashless transaction.

I don't have a problem with the self check at Lowe's, my problem with them is changing the product locals. About the time I learn were everything is, they move stuff around to different locals.

Walmart has done this for years. Leads to more impulse buys while you search for what you came for. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

So everyone is bitching about self checkouts lol, like its some grand scheme. Anyone think about the fact that none of the dead beats in this country want to work anymore? I know there is serious staff shortages all over. Self check out is a direcr result

Trusting the humans to do the right thing is never a good idea. Not even Miss South Dakota couldn’t resist screwing over wal mart at the self checkout. Cost her her crown.

Local moderately sized Ace Hardware has four checkout stations and smiling gals each working at least three of them all of the time. Checkouts steady and easy, but sometimes they are not busy - just standing there saying "welcome - help you find anything?" Then they get on the shop radio and have somebody waiting for you in Isle 23.
Maybe Lowe's, HD, Walmart etc. are having trouble keeping dependable/useful staff in some locations? Or just trying to cut op costs?
