I have an old family 1892 Winchester in .25-20 WCF. Since I cannot seem to source any 2400 powder for my reloads, I was wondering had anyone used Ramshot Enforcer instead?

According to my burn rate chart Enforcer is slightly slower burning than 2400.

I have a good local source for the Ramshot powders as well, usually costing $34-$35 per pound rather than the obtuse $50-$75 we are being asked for most every rifle powder these days.

I was thinking that a 60 grain Hornady FP on top of 11 grains of Enforcer would be a good load for varmints in my 1892 rifle.

I'm no help, but I use AA1680 powder for my 25-20s. Do you have the Hornady 60 grain bullets on hand or have you seen new ones? I have not seen those bullets in several years now.

Yes I have several boxes on hand. Also just bought a mould for casting bullets for the .25-20 as well!!

That's great!! I sure wish Hornady would make a run of their bullets for the 25-20 but with today's market one probably needs to learn to embrace shooting cast bullets. I always liked the original 60 gun hollow points (Winchester or Remington) and recently scored a box at a gun show. I also liked the Speer 75 gun flat nose but they were not made for very long. I think I got 1 box before they stopped making them.

I have a couple .25-20 molds which I use for feeding a .25-20 Single Shot (not .25-20WCF, not that it matters). All are in the 85 grain neighborhood and are plain base designs which means roughly 1400fps max, maybe 1600 on the outside if you're lucky (or carefully plot alloy hardness and throat/bore dimensions). I'll be doing a casting marathon in the very near future and would be happy to make an extra handful for you to try. (I gotta do some .22 bullets for Penndog at the same time so no big deal.) As for powders, there's a whole bunch suitable for .25-20 work. Even though my experience is with the Single Shot version, case capacity is nigh identical with the WCF version, and 2400, 4227, 4759, Unique, are all eminently usable in my experience although you can go overboard with Unique if you're not careful. My favorite is 4759 but I'm loathe to mention it since it's discontinued. Betcha a case full of 4198 would work too without maxing out pressures.
