PONTOTOC COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) - Trial is set to begin Tuesday for a Pontotoc County man who allegedly killed his friend on a fishing trip because he thought the man was going to feed him to Bigfoot.

Larry Sanders, 55, is charged with first degree murder in the death of Jimmy Knighten.

In July of 2022, the two men were noodling on the South Canadian River near Allen when they got into a fight, and that’s when Sanders admitted to authorities that he strangled and beat Knighten.

Knighten’s body was found the next day in the woods.

Court records show that Sanders waived his right to a jury trial in March, meaning a judge will determine his fate when trial begins.
