Why peel them? The best part is on the outside. Precisely. Mashed, oven fries, baked etc, eat all of it! Agreed.

My father brought one of these home once. He spent a lot of time in bars and got “great deals” on lots of things. When he got it home I stopped by and broke the news to him that it reqjuired three phase power. It sat in his garage for years.

Don't recall peeling. I do remember a couple troops cracking 3 or 4 cases of eggs into a huge tub. Did my KP tour in the butcher shop. We were usually done for the day around 10:30 AM. I did a LOT of KP - in the crackin' eggs dept! Never got good enough to do 2 at once - but I could keep shells out. Cooks loved me, partially because I never bitched or moaned. When I went in for a meal - I got served exceptionally well !

Brother volunteered for KP. It got him out of PT. He hated running. Somehow he still ended up in 5th Group.

Rant warning!
Peel on?
We ate jacket potatoes when I was a kid. Only because every potato isn't a grocery store perfect specimen, and Mom wasn't wasting anything. And I hated the damn dirt tasting things.
Pap used to tell of a fellow worker eating away from the others, everyday. They finally figured out why. It was during the depression, the guy was eating vegetable peels because he left the good food at home.
Today, unpeeled potatoes are the fad. Everyone in the supply chain benefits, except the consumer paying for potato peels. But he is tickled. The expensive place he goes does this special thing!🤣🤣🤣
He also loves his wedge salad. You know the one? They bring you a bunch of salad fixins on a plate and let you do your own food prep. With a scrappy knife, fork only, can't use hand there, while wearing your best clothes. All for the low price of $25 for an otherwise basic salad. The same one the Family Restaurants prepare for you for $8.

I used to go to a Diner that had "Taters and gravy" for the special quite often. The cook peeled them "thick" then cooked 'em up and covered them with gravy. Yum. Yum!

I've never used anything but a paring knife to peel potatoes.

If I am not mistaken, I believe potato peelers were made popular by the army in WW II. My reasoning for this is that my mother was a teenager during the early part of WW II living very near Ft. Rucker, Alabama. I remember she told me that they somehow acquired an army potato peeler and thought it was a great savings tool for the purpose. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of that, just what she said.

I only peel potatoes if their skins are greenish to get rid of the toxin, otherwise I like them intact.
