We have all the natural resources we need on the American continents.

Why in hell would we want to take Africa under our wings. Let Russia and China have the dark continent.

Biden is a walking, talking Cluster F.... His diplomacy has no other description except it SUCKS. Everything he touches turns to ship with a T. Niger has brought in Russians, already and they are setting up missile batteries already. So much for the ice cream sucking, little girl sniffing, pig fuxer.

US Exits Niger

The US military will fully withdraw its roughly 1,000 troops from Niger after the two sides failed to reach a deal allowing American forces to remain in the country, officials said over the weekend. The frayed alliance ends eight months after the Niger military overthrew the government, a move eventually designated as an illegal coup by the US.

Since that time, Niger’s military junta has established closer ties with Russia, which has recently trained local forces. Analysts say Moscow has both directly or tacitly supported recent coups in places like Mali and Burkina Faso, often using Libya as a gateway to funnel arms and equipment.

The US established a presence in Niger in 2013—including building a $110M Air Force base in 2018—as a command center for operations in Africa's Sahel region. The sub-Saharan region has seen a significant rise in extremist violence, accounting for more than 40% of global terrorism-related deaths in 2022.

We've been keeping 1000 troops in Niger. Something almost no one knew about. Think about the monthly cost of that. We spent $110 million building a place to land planes. Now they want us gone.

How stupid are we to spread money that we borrow all over the world in shthole countries that don't want us there. And we have unfunded infrastructure projects desperately needed here in our own country.

At least now they have a nice airport.

A nice airport in one of the major smuggling routes and the path migrants use to get from Africa to Europe.

Let's hope that base has a bunch of 30 foot deep craters every few yards down the runway and all the buildings are rubble when our guys leave. No point in just handing over a fully operational facility to people who are evicting us. Good training for a few demolition specialists!

It's Niger's property, not ours

If you 'drill down' into the story a little deeper...you will discover Chevron sold some of it's facilities and leases, and acquired new and better leases, and I believe Chevron still operates it's gas pipeline subsidiary there. So the mission of the US military, "To preserve and protect Chevron Nigeria" is not over yet.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

It's their country. They want us gone. We need to get the hell out. No reason to destroy any improvements we made while there.

That would be like tearing down and vandalizing a fence on a property you had been leasing that the owner wanted to not renew the lease on.

If other countries are turning to China and Russia that might ought to tell us something. The 3rd world countries are already working on an alternative to the U.S. dollar. It is easy to understand why.

You campfire knotheads just knock it off...we must maintain a strong military presence in Nigeria to protect my 200 shares of Chevron preferred stock, LOL.
