Hope the cherry isn't planted near your vehicles.

Planted 2 honey crisps, two pear, two plum, and an ornamental type cherry last year about this time. The deer raked them pretty good within a week of planting, so I put the white tubes on them. They where about 8 feet tall they got most of the lower branches. Except the cherry they sharpened it to quite the nice tip about 2 feet above the ground. They just destroyed it in 2 nights. Couple a beds in the pasture grass right next to it. 70 $ gone. Hopefully the others make it. The plum is the only one to bloom so far.

I would not suggest planting , what’s called here , the native plumb. They are almost as bad as Russian olive for volunteering everywhere. A person has to keep them mowed down constantly and are they spiney devils ? Only planted them cause they were free from the county, however they really bear fruit about every third year, big pits but tasty and make good jelly, too old snd lazy to pick them anymore so we feed all kinds of wildlife including mice and gophers unfortunately.

We had a hard freeze a few nights ago, down to 22. We lost the apricots, peaches, nectarines, and cherries. The plums and pears are still a maybe. The apples are a week from opening so they should be ok.
I figure we'll only get apricots 1 out of 3 years. We've had 2 good crops in a row so we're ahead of the game. They bloom too early here. We've lost peaches before but not often. I can't remember ever losing the cherries before. The plum tree is close to 30 years old. If they're gone, it'll be the 1st time ever. They're pretty frost resistant. We always can more than we need in case of frost. We usually have a 2 year supply.

Every year Costco gets in a load of fruit trees which they immediately put on display inside the store. In a couple weeks, they come out of dormancy and start to leaf out. It's still March and too cold to plant them outside if they're leafed out. People buy them, plant them, and freeze them. Costco needs to keep them outside for a month to keep them dormant.

Variety of cherry tree Ive had good luck with in Wisconsin (zone 4) is "Montmorency cherry."
They grow fast, give good amount of fruit that the birds love, and are covered in spring blossoms. I can buy 10 foot ones pretty reasonable from an Amish green house.
