I have an 1892 octagon barreled rifle in 32-20. . Very rough bore. Was wanting a ball park $ figure on making it into a 357 .

Ken, have you investigated having JES re-bore it?

I have a friend who has used them , will maybe contact them . I was thinking something would have to be done with the. Bolt face ? Need to compare the the two cartridges, havnt done that yet .

You can also check with John Taylor, Lewiston, ID but he currently is about 6 months behind but does very good work.

John Taylor has made an art of lining barrels. (Reline? Was it lined once before? Funny how definitions shift in our language.) I swear he could probably do one with his eyes closed. I know that he uses TJ's Liners as much as possible. TJ's are hammer forged and a tad more expensive than the more common Redman's liners which are button rifled.

Comparing prices between re-boring versus lining it's probably a wash, or close to it.

Never messed with a 92. How much of a hassle is it to make a .25-20 feed .357's?

Mine is actually in 32-20 . Rifling in poor shape . I have shot it some , can hit a beer can at 15 yds, sometimes! 😆

There are several considerations for a re bore. Obviously it has to be a larger diameter than current bore. 357 might create pressure issues, not sure. May also require bolt work, possible magazine tube replacement, ejector modification depending on case dimensions.

A re line could restore the 32-20 or even take it to a 25-20 if that’s your preference, without any other mods needed.

How is the exterior? I would rather line it and keep it original. Im sure Starline will produce brass again🤞. And it is usually priced pretty reasonably.
Years ago a buddy had a 73 done( only had two tiny pits in a high conditioned rifle)
