My first deer rifle was a 742 rem, auto i had these type of see thru's installed, a family remember seen them and I remember my dad ordering him a pair for his 99 and getting a extra pair, they have been in a bin for 40 plus years.

I have or had a set of those. Items like this are easy to grab at a gun show when you feel stronger about not wanting to leave empty handed than you do about what you will ever do with the item. Hence, I think there's a lot of guys who would say they've had a set of those rings sitting in a box for years. However, I think they were uber practical for their day. A time when guys may have been a bit more utilitarian about their firearms.

I think see thru were a product of the older generation of hunters that did not want to completely give up their iron sights for these new things called scopes. took my dad years to give up the idea that he somehow still needed open sights, and this thought resonated within the deer camps. Tip off were right there with them too.
