I saw a 99R in a pawn shop today that had been drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Nothing unusual about that, but there were three holes on the left side of the receiver. The two holes on the left were horizontal with the third hole to the right of the top hole. There were screws in the holes that weren't flush.
I'm guessing drilled and tapped for some type of scope mount? Thanks for your time and expertise.

Possibly a Williams side mount? Could be a couple others. Here's a Williams.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

Is that Williams side-mount off-set left of bore centerline?

Calhoun thanks for your reply.
Rereading my post I wrote horizontal, (as the Williams is), when I should have written vertical. The two holes to the left are vertical, one on top of the other, while the third hole is horizontal, to the right and even with the top vertical hole. Like a capital L that tipped forward.
My apologies!
