I can not speak for the 30 Herrett. I have a 7-30 in both the contender and a 94 Win. I like it. I have never used it hunting so I can not say what they are like on animals.

My hunting partner has .30 Herretts in both TC and Merrill. He got them back when he was shooting silhouette. He has taken deer and black bear with them. To me, the case forming is too much nuisance. He also has a 94 Winchester in 7/30 Waters. It is a neat rifle. If I recall correctly, he really liked Sierra 120 grain flat nose bullets when they were available.

Years ago, I had a 7/30 Waters Contender and a 357 Herrett Merrill. They're long gone, but got the itch recently and now have a 7/30 Waters Contender again. Found a frame and pieced the rest together from ebay. Fun project...

I bought my Super 14 TC in 7-30 waters in 1980 and I absolutely love it. Loaded with 120 gr ballistic tips, I have taken deer out to 250 yards and last year took my second bear with it. I've totally lost count on the crows that got punched along with splattered P-dogs. I have many different barrels and frames but always return to the original framed TC and the 7-30 Waters barrel when deer season rolls around.

I've got a TC Contender in 7-30 Waters. The accuracy is impressive with 120 gr and 140 gr BTs. Mild recoil and wicked on Whitetails.
