Just that - which one for a laptop?
I'm getting ready to pull trigger on refurb corporate Latitude and have my choice for operation system. I don't know/care what's running in background b/c it's always worked on my company laptops. Mostly emails, alot of word & excel & powerpoint, modest surfing, zero gaming. Some photo post-processing, but not a determining factor.
Forget Apple suggestions...not interested. They're not bad, simply not interested at changing & relearning 30 years of experience.
I've heard 10 is better than 11, but never given a good excuse why.
What say ye?

Eventually, all operating systems will become obsolete and discontinued. 11 will last longer than 10.
Be not weary in well doing.

I'm running 10 on 3 units, 10 is better than 11....but 10's about to run out(no longer supported by MS), so you may as well buy 11 now.

10 is done as of October 2025 ---no longer supported.
Also, I've heard rumors that Windows 12 will be out sometime this summer. Nothing like built in obsolescence.

Window$$$ 11 won't run on a bunch of current hardware. If you are stuck to Micro$oft be sure the Win 10 system will be able to upgrade.
I believe a lot of nice machines will come up for sale because of 11's hardware requirements. Those boxes will run other OS just fine.

Bought a corporate refurbished Dell Lattitude 4-5 mos ago. The machine I got was 3 years old return at end of lease. Win 10 pro was installed and updated to 11 pro on registration. Damn nice machine for little money.
10 vs 11
11 doesnt have the layout or Windows feel to it. 10 is more of a normal Windows look. 11 also has a few not so nice peculiarities like trying to get you to put everything on the cloud. Desktop layout, backups etc. but easily overcome. 11 is actually faster and more efficient than 10.
As noted 10 is on death row so 11 with its quirks gets the nod.

Reviewers tell me Win 11 also has ads in the Start Menu. Yes, ads. In the Start menu.
When Microsoft pisses you off enough, you'll switch to Linux. And curse yourself for waiting so long.

Well I’m probably going to have to download it because they’re relentless. I probably need to. I would like to simplify the login tho.

I probably could do better, Swifty. If I had used anything from Windows in almost 10 years. But since then, I've been blissfully unaware of ANY crap that Microsoft dishes out. I just do whatever I choose to, on three different platforms, with zero issues, zero headaches, zero intrusions, and all for exactly zero cost. I'm not the techie you are, but I know what works for me.
Microsoft doesn't.

I figured Micro$oft would be 100% subscription based by now.
Keep up with Window$$ enough to help my wife with her work machines.
Other than that and a tax program I've used for years its all Linux here. And I'm working on an alternative for the tax program.
90% only need a working browser anyways, no need to understand the sys it runs on.

Microsoft doesn't. Its not being a techie Rocky, the OP isn’t interested in even learning a Mac which I consider to be one of the easiest to learn. Wouldn’t even introduce Linux in that case. Question asked was answered. He wanted a 0 or 1 answer. Base 2

I'm not talking to just the OP. There are more than a few 'Fire members who are more than capable of switching to Linux. They mastered the change to cell phones, as proof of that. My message has always been "When you get fed up with Microsoft, there's an easy solution." For some, it might even be a Mac, although that's just the same tyranny in a different wrapper. But for MOST casual users, Linux Mint does everything they might ever need.
