The 1962 D Day movie, The Longest Day, had a number of stars or stars to be. I thought about the Longest Day too. It had a great cast of characters, but I read 2 or 3 times that Ike got up and left the theater, because it was so inaccurate as to be disgusting to the veterans who were there!😟 I never knew any D-Day veterans myself. Dad went in with the 2nd Armored Division on D-Day + 3, by then the beaches were secured and they were in the Hedgerows, which presented a whole new problem! The book that it’s based on by Cornelius Ryan is a humdinger. Ryan interviewed dozens of allied and German veterans, and I consider the book as among the best. I love the movie myself, but Hollywood took a lot of liberties in the film. Reon

I'll suggest Red Dawn 1984 as an honorable mention. Besides the "younger" stars at the time it also included Ben Johnson, Harry Dean Stanton, and Powers Booth.
