Winfield also played college summer baseball for the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks for two seasons (1971–72) and was the MVP in 1972.

We're Miners fans over here (and Green Giants fans back in that day). I've never attended a Fairbanks home game. Their ABL team is long gone, but they've got some other baseball thing going on. The Miners hosted a team from the states last season that came to Fairbanks in thier league schedule.

Fairbanks still has the Goldpanners, but they're now an "independent" playing mostly Lower 48 teams. I don't recall why they dropped from the ABL.
