Does the cow look to be drying up? Probably hard to tell after just a couple days. Shiny teats are always a giveaway.

Sam, that is a strange one. Tough on the profit margin to lose a perfectly healthy, well started calf.

A buddy had a new born angus calf disappear from the pasture. A few weeks later he found remains on an island in the river along the pasture edge. The remains were under a tree.

He surmised an eagle had carried the calf into the tree for a feast. But the Malhuer River is more of a creek at that time of year and location. I suppose it could have easily been a cat as well.

But it sure was not 120 lbs.

There are some places I haven't looked but they were quite a ways away.

Crazy year for twins.

This little mini is the 5th set and I think we have a sixth set still with the old cows. You watch for small calves out of mature cows when they come to the feed-line.

Now that would REALLY not be good.

That's a tiny calf there Sam. I hope it grows up to steak and burger size for you unless it's a girly calf.

If it's a twin and female, chances are it's a freemartin.

That means it's sterile, and can't reproduce, so about the only thing they are good for is meat.

Yeah, but I heard if they make it they can have more hamburger candidates.

I see the next posts below yours made some sense of the issue for me.

I never knew that. Interesting article.

Do cows ever have twin female calves?
