I found Gettysburg simply spellbinding and moving.
The courage of the men who fought there was unbelievable.
I went there one time 30 years ago and it was unforgettable.

I went for the first time in June of 2022. Did the bus thing and had an outstanding tour guide. I was taken by the size of the battlefield and the distance across the field where Pickett’s charge took place. The town itself is interesting also. I hope to go back again sometime. Hope you have a wonderful time!

I was there a few years ago with a friend who lives in the Gettysburg area. We got a private guide from the park service who took both of us all over the battlefield. I'd recommend you try a private guide. You decide how much time you want to spend at any given area, with the guide narrating what was happening at that location during the battle.

So far, I haven’t found the stupidity of Lincoln as many here accuse him of.

Lee might have made several mistakes but he was far from stupid.

This is our history. It is paid in full with the blood of both participants. That is hallowed ground. You can hate Lincoln but he did manage to preserve the Union.

Just got here and the history is overwhelming… Have dinner at the Dobbin House before you leave town. Make your reservation a bit late if you can. The staff will usually allow you to walk around the house and give you an informal tour. I believe you’ll be glad you did.

Thanks for the clue, we are in the area visiting Gettysburg and close battlefields for the next few days…

I’ve read that there was so much Pb in the air that there are a number of examples of opposing Pb balls that collided midair.

Setting aside the question of whether he lived the words, or which side better exemplified them, does anyone have a problem with his address? Have we maintained the increased devotion to that cause? Have those honored dead died in vain? Very sad.

Welcome to Pa, Kirk.
If you travel west on US 30 or the Turnpike let me know. I’ll buy you a coffee and shake your hand.
I know you and Reon are getting together, holler if he drags you this way.

My bride and I spent 3 days there in October. I had read quite a bit and studied maps before we got there but I was having trouble placing everybody where they belonged on our first day bus tour but we went back to our room and I studied some more and the next day we toured in our own vehicle and it came together pretty well. The 3rd day we had a private tour guide drive our vehicle around for a good all around tour.
I am intrigued by the Dan Sickles controversy. As to whether he saved the day for the union or almost lost the battle with his foray.
This battle was a lot harder to figure out all the positions and ins and outs than was Little Bighorn. That one has some unanswered questions but it is easy to see basically how it went.

If possible, make the time to hit Antietam while you’re there, it’s only a 45-60 min drive away.
