Went four for four last night . Much better than glue boards, poison, or regular traps IMO A real good design Note: I was gonna add this to other thread, but couldn’t find it.

The trick to the regular type is tie a piece of fabric on the trigger and rub peanut butter in to it so they have to work at it.

Put a piece of cracked pecan with some shell attached and wedge it onto the trigger. They can’t resist it. As a side note, if you are trapping coons use marshmallow, they can’t resist that and you won’t catch cats.

I don't normally bugle my accomplishments here on the 'fire...but here goes...for many years Worst Homes and Sorry Gardens voted me "Mousekiller of the Year". What propelled me to this lofty position, you axe? The simple ability to take the classic Victor wood base mousetrap, and turn it into a killing machine to make Robert J Oppenheimer blush. My ability to adjust and tune the sear to release at the mere suggestion of mouse proximity...is now a legend in American Folklore. But....being a modest fellow, I avoid public adulation, mousetrap signings and autograph sessions and photo ops.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

My jam was the ORTHO plastic jawed traps, back when I had a rodent problem. Nothing ever escaped them. There also is a large version for rats. Those you might want to tie a string to it in case the rat is large or something bigger gets caught... they will drag the trap to somewhere else.

I use a shidt ton of them, they are a bit pricey for me. I'll stick with the cheapo style, they work for me. https://www.victorpest.com/victor-easy-set-mouse-trap

And I thought I was the only one who worked over the wooden base mouse traps and made them KILLERS for sure. I adjusted the sear for even the craftiest bait stealer around. My traps always works with out all of the misses. I even once mounted fired .22 empty cases and fixed on the trigger to hold bait and make them work to get it out. They never knew what happened. Set and wait for the big smack down.

Dogfood hot glued; pb and honey for a topping; sear set to break on breath.
Not many misses.

My wife is a mouse killing machine. She hot glues half a peanut on a victor trigger. I dont think it ever misses. Almost every one she catches has their 2 little incisor teeth marks in the peanut. One peanut will last for a whole year unless if glued on well.

We have had none inside since moving here, and they have become very scarce outside since we imported bull and king snakes. Consequently, no rattlers for the past year - even now in new rattler season.
I do set a few traps in/around the big garage just in case. Those plastic snappers seem to be more effective catchers than the old Victor wood base models, but the mechanism doesn't last as long. They do sell a larger model for pack rat types - but a guy had better hitch those to something solid.
Thanks for the expert info on trap let off tuning.
