One guy up near Chetek, WI., just paid about $145,000 for his new pontoon - and it has two 300hp outboards on the back... And this is on a rather small lake of about 7 miles.. Crazy, IYAM.

Used boat prices for good boats remain high. Cheaper boat’s you take a normal hit on the first few years.

Boats are expensive but they are worth it.

Interesting thread. My brother and I fished Lake Texoma for 4 days last week. Got a guide for one day.
Fishing from shore was tough. Very rocky and steep in places. From the boat it was much easier. Considered a boat purchase for a bit. Want something small enough for this rookie to handle, but with enough power to get off the lake quickly too. Probably won't get anything until winter when people don't want the storage expense.

Boats started going full retard with the near zero interest rates and exploding home prices.

Nearly free money for 30 years. Why not buy boats/trucks/cars and whatever toys.

Covid just dump fuel on the fire.

Never had any interest in pontoon boats. To me, they’re not boats, they’re barges. I can see the attraction they hold for people who are not really into boats, but want to get out on the water.
Portable fishing dock and party barge.

You want to see scary boat prices, check out the 24/26 foot twin or triple LS inboard jet river boats. High grade aluminum sheet is expensive.

I am glad that we were able to find a couple older single drive units.

I saw a BMF or HCM that was over $500k. But at least you get something for $500k, a kick ax boat that you can fish, hunt, ski, and play out of. I have a 21x78 jetboat with a 6.0 and a 212. It’s worth today what it was custom ordered for in 2002.

We've owned a couple of Ski boats over the years.

Now we only have a few kayaks.

I really enjoy the maintenance requirements for the kayaks.

I have had the same boat since 2004, I have taken great care of it, depreciated it out in four years.. It actually belonged to my company. I used it for R&D. I closed the business seven years ago. The boat title transfered to me, at that point. I believe it's worth the same as I paid for it today. Of course dollars are worth 30% less than 2004.

Mine is a 1988 Almar, 19 feet by 72 inches w/ a 302 Ford and a Kodiac pump. I got it for 12K three years ago and have put a few dollars into upholstery and a Huminbird.

It gets me and Momma and four G kids onto the lake or river.

The Son in Law picked up a 24 foot by 96 inch Weldcraft with a brand new 460 and 212. It is heavy, takes a triple axle trailer. It does not run on the water any different than that new one for $120K plus.

Must be super heavy. Most 24-26’ boats are running tandems. I’ve seen very few that actually required a triple axle trailer. Mines a 2002 Boice, it’s actually 8-8” across the top, and technically illegal going down the road. My next boat will probably be a FireFish or an Edge if they start building jets again.
