Caught this in my front yard an hour ago. I interrupted his snack, and he looks angry. It looks like he let the toad go because of me, and I'm sure went back to lunchin' on the poor dude after I left. Lots of excitement in Central MN. Morels are popping up too.

When I was about six, I saw what I thought was a two headed snake on the front lawn. I ran into the house and told my father about the two headed snake that's on our front lawn. He came out to take a look, and told me that that's not a two headed snake. That's a snake who has the back half of a toad in his mouth/throat. I believe it was a garter snake.

Funny, we just got a little shower, 1.2 tens, walked out to empty rain gauge, walking back to front deck, something jumped around my feet, little toad, I looked at it and looked at grass next to sidewalk, there was a garter after toad. I couldn’t let toad die because they get in flower beds and eat bugs all summer, held foot up to garter and let him strike couple times and off he went. Snake was a big Garter.

One day, I was walking out to my mailbox and heard a strange squawking from the culvert pipe under the driveway. When I walked around to see what was making the little screams I found a big garter snake with a toad. About a third of the toad was in the snake's mouth and he was croaking to beat the band. Just like a rabbit in a coyote's mouth or a deer in a wolf's grasp. Interesting to see and hear.

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

I have a spot I mow only in the spring and for the last 3 years I have been driving around and stopping for a garter snake. Instead of running over him with the mover I just let him go. Last week I was mowing again and there is a garter snake in the same place I have seen on for the last 3 years, although he is much bigger now than 3 years ago. Well, on the next pass I no longer see Mr. Garter snake but from in front of the mower jumps a big old leopard frog. I guess this explains why the garter snake is in the same place again.
