For what it's worth, I really like the interlocks in my 25-06. I've gotten a pass though every time and never lost an animal.

That's a preference thing for some. I consider it a loss of energy, when .300 WM bullet is found under the hide, it has dumped all of it's energy into the animal.

Lots of Hornady Interlocks mentioned. Let's hope that Hornady doesn't phase them out like they have some already (i.e. .257 100gn).

BCHunter666: I have killed Bull Elk with both the 30/06 and the 7m/m Remington Magnum and used Nosler Partitions (165 grain and 160 grains respectively) for both.
YOU.... may or may NOT consider Nosler Partitions to be "premium bullets" - but I know they work VERY well!

Easy choice for me, Hornady Interlock.

If for some reason the rifle did not shoot them to my satisfaction. I would try Ballistic tips next.

Killed my first elk in 1973, used my 270 with 150gr Nosler partitions. I’ve taken many more in the last 50 years but all with “premium” bullets, but if I were going to use a regular C&C bullet it’d be a Hornady interlock or Nosler ballistic tip, whichever one shot best in my rifle.

My go-to bullet is the Sierra Gameking or Hornady Interlock.

For my .257’s, I like the 117 grain ones.
For my .277’s, I like the 130 grain ones.
For my .284’s, I like the 150 grain ones.
For my .308’s, I have always used the 150 grain, but I think the 165’s are probably better. The .30-06 I used when I was younger absolutely loved the 150 grain Gamekings on top of 50 grains of 4064. It shot so well that we never bothered to try anything else. Now that I have a new one, I need to find what it loves.

For a cup and core bullet, the Hornady Interlock never let me down. In the 7mms I really like the 139 grain and the 154 grain bullets and for the 30-06 in particular, I prefer the 165 grain for most anything but could put the 180 to good use. I also really liked the 190 grain interlock but it was discontinued several years ago.

I’ve had good results with Serria game king and Hornady interlocks. Also Remington core locks for close range.
