Well I am impressed. Bought a copy of Selecting & Ordering a Custom Hunting Rifle from John Barsness’ website. I am glad I did. I have been fiddling around with custom rifles for 60 years and learned lots of lessons by making mistakes.
I would have saved lots of money if I had access to this book back then. It is well organized and thoughtfully written. AND Mule Deer has copies available.
I really appreciated the mention that the best gunmaker in the world can’t cut a chamber better than his reamer allows.
Thanks Mr Sisk and JB and Eileen and Phil S, all of whom contributed as did others worth heeding.

Can you give us a table of contents? Here you go: Book TOC
It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

I have never owned a custom rifle, all I'm familiar with are factory rifles, if any one you have built or purchased a custom rifle what is it that you are looking for in a custom rifle? is it the fit, weight, accuracy or all of the above and how much better are customs? The closest I came to custom was semi custom with trued action, re-barrel and re-stock. Thanks

The beauty of Charlie’s book is that he has no axes to grind or advertisers to appease. He simply states his honest appraisal gleaned from experience and points out both the good and the mediocre aspects.
