When you buy food to go after having a meal, do you leave a tip for the meal, or the whole bill?
Just wondering.

the beauty of it all is that if you feel the 'experience' was worth it, you can tip. If not, then you don't have to. Do you really need validation for your choice?

Depends on where.

I usually give a buck or two at best if it's a 'sit down' place[not fast food].

There was a meme a while back that stated a pretty good rule of thumb. "If standing when ordering, no tip." If it's a sit down meal where there is a server, then I tip.

Don't forget to tip at McDonald's, too.

I usually give 10% for a take out order at a sit down restaurant. Do as you please though.

Olive Garden.

They have meals "to go" for $6. with the purchase of a meal.

Not a high class place, more of a fast food Italian chain.

If I get good service and a good meal, I tip well.

Bad service, and/or bad food, not so much.

I think I answered my own question.

I was at a coffee shop Monday bought three coffees, minimum tip on machine was 30% 50% for great service. No tip for pouring 3 coffees. Normally if I have change or a couple bucks i will toss it in the jar. That was just being presumptuous. A small local coffee shop to

No. You tip for Service. You don't tip a cook.

If I got good service for my family's meal, then yes I tip for the whole bill....if not, then the tip/or lack of will be dictated by the overall experience.

So, %90 I tip for both for the sake of the server.....minimum hourly wage for waitresses here is $2.83 hour (plus tips).

Doesn't always go to the cook. Bartender friend of mine gets tips from togo orders, she takes the calls, puts them in, and grabs everything when ready and customer shows up. Togo tips go to her. She makes a whopping 3 bucks an hour without tips.
