My 2009 accord has been good to me. But last night an escaped mental patient ran in front me on my way home (yes... I am not kidding) and I braked and they went to the floor before they stopped me.

Got a VSA light and a brake light on my dash.

Anyone familiar with this?

Incidentally, a shooting occurred an hour later so it was kind of the wild West here and I forgot about the brakes until I got back in the car this afternoon.

Yes but since the brakes aren't working right...will resetting the light help anything?

Look for leaks, check for codes. That's where I would start.

I'd take it to a real mechanic.

If you can't self diagnose a brake system, you should probably move to a safer city.

Reservoir is empty so I suspect a broken or rusted thru line. The mystery is why a week ago I got the dash light and it appeared to be just a sensor. So I gotta figure out if I have two problems or one.

Wheel cylinder or caliper.

Possibly even the master.

Fill the reservoir, get down on the floor and listen as someone pumps them.
You should hear it.

If you are in an area that uses brine on the roads, rusted lines are likely.

^^^^ This.

You gotta failure to pressurize somewhere. If you can park on a concrete slab with a full reservoir pump the brake and look for the wet spot on the concrete.

Good luck.

That's my thought too. Just not familiar with the VSA light and what it means on a Honda of this vintage

I think the VSA light has to do with traction control and stability. There should be a button on your dash to the left of the steering wheel that looks like a car fishtailing. Press it and see if the light goes off. You obviously have a leak somewhere in the hydraulic brake system. Fill the master cylinder, get under the car, and have someone pump the brakes. It should be very obvious where it is at that point.

Easy fix, but you will probably need a special program on a scan tool to bleed the ABS system. They aren't like the regular old type brakes to bleed properly.

I am with you here. I do everything for myself. Do my own dental and medical work. Repair everything myself. Mold my own bullets and brass and make my own guns.
