t it's more rifle than I want to deal with for deer hunting. try loading the 125BTip at about 3000fps. You may change your mind... Will it kill deer deader than a 300 Savage using the same bullet, with less powder? Thanks.

J-H I have a 1800 yard range here any time you want to show this old dumb F how to shoot come on down. Rio7 Now that’s a call out if I ever heard one. Time to put up or shut up. DF You guys will have better luck high jumping 7ft in the next Olympics than that JH clown taking that bet.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

I hunted for my first 15 years with a 30/06, killing everything from crows to moose. I haven't shot one in almost 20 years.
It still can't be beat, but it's more rifle than I want to deal with for deer hunting. Maybe you ready for a Creed. May or may not want to answer that. DF I have a Creedmoor but mostly use a 250 Savage. Haven't seen deer die any slower than when I used a 30/06.

And the same could be said about a 25/06, 257R, 243, 280, 270, 308, or a host of others. As a matter of fact, I enjoy my M99 300Savage very much. And I also enjoy hunting with my old reliable M70 30/06. Not sure I see the point you are trying too make.

I already said I thought the 06 was more than I needed to deal with for deer. You seemed to want to convince me otherwise, as if I haven't a clue.

You said the O6 was more than you wanted for deer hunting. I simply suggested a way to modify the 30/06 so that it might not be more than you wanted.
If you do not wish to try that, no problem. It’s a hobby use whatever you like.
As we both know, as long as an appropriate projectile is put in an appropriate place no cartridge will make bambi more dead or less dead

And suddenly handjob is conspicuously absent from the conversation. Maybe he’s packing his stuff, heading to TX and Rio7’s 1800 yd range. Yeah, you can believe that. Ha! DF

I love how these wanna be tough old codgers get so upset when someone tells them their favorite cartridge sucks.
Pretty pathetic.

before the can is kick down the road remember this about the 30-06 for 35 years the longest shot ever recorder on a enemy soldier shot and killed was 2500 yards by sniper Carlos Hathcock . he used a Winchester model 70 30-06 with a 8 power Unertl scope to make this shot. Actually no. While Carlos did typically use the 30-06, iirc zeroed at 600 yds, that 2500 yd shot was made with a Ma Deuce to which he had fastened his sniper scope. Hathcock's most respected work as a sniper was done during his two tours of service in the Vietnam War. He set the record (since broken) for the longest documented sniper kill—a confirmed kill at 2,500 yards (1.42 miles) with an M2 . 50-caliber Browning machine gun.

Having a .30-'06 is like having a plain wife. She will do anything you want and nobody else is lusting after her.
