I have a win 70 LA with a 24" factory contoured stainless barrel that currently resides in a mcmillan FWT stock. I am looking to get another stock with a bit more material in the forearm to better support the full figured barrel and provide a better rest.

Please let me know which stock would work well for a general hunting application (this means some stand and still hunting).

Thanks to all!

PS, I will have a very nice McMillan FWT stock for sale!

I'm having the same rifle built with a #3 Lilja. My stick will be a McMillan Classic (Winlight) with no floorplate. I'm expecting the whole rig scope and all to come in under 8.5#.

I'd choose.....NONE.....as McMillan doesn't make a walnut stock

Supergrade is the way to go for what you're looking at. It has a thicker/flatter bottomed forend. Should be just about right for what you've listed.

Hope this helps,

i got the mcmillan supergrade for my win 70 classic. it currently is a 7mm rem mag, but it begs to be a 257 weatherby mag w/ 26" tube. i chose the supergrade thinking down the road for the 257.

Try a supergrade with Edge technology. Literally the cat's meow.

Compact Classic in Edge construction.

Just put one on a standard M-70 in 'o6.

Great ergos & the stock weighed 21 oz.

The Supergrade stock is way to clutzy & clubby for my taste.

I'd go classic 1st, compact a close 2nd. I've got a supergrade and it's merely OK. Someone said "clubby" and I'd be inclined to agree.

Seein' as it's a 24" tube, Winchester Hunter's EDGE would be my choice.

BS - 7MM Rem. Mag. factory 24" tube. Bought the stock from a really nice guy (rgrx1276) here on the fire. Fits perfect with the Win. Model 70.
