I had a good afternoon yesterday. I was slated to run across the lake for a black bear "fix" but gale-force winds pre-empted that notion in a hurry! With only 6 hours of daylight remaining, I gathered up the 7/8 wt. and set out on the road for a stream 60 miles south of me.

I was amazed at the destruction the previous year's flooding had accomplished in just a few days. The first hour was spent prospecting for new water to fish: the old spots were gone...but the fish were still there.

I managed to land 3 of 5 fish that struck. The old tuft of cerise colored yarn( with a spatter of flame for good measure) came through again. The lower water level, combined with the bright clear day called for light tippets and # 8 hooks. There are many fish that come out of the water when on line, but not so many that will tail-walk the length of a pool! It seemed that all of these fish were HOT!

I no longer begrudge the weather for beating me out of a hunt! I suppose that I could have been brought up in a place that only offered suckers as an alternative!

best,
bhtr
