....I've got a Marlin model 39 which has a straight stock, round back lever, a 19"5/8" barrel (measured from the reciever to the muzzle),a tubular magazine ending perhaps 4" from muzzle end, and a barrel stamping of "39 Carbine" . No prefix or suffix letters, just "39 Carbine" nothing more. The little gun is in nearly new condition, with no more than a couple hair light scratches on the wood, silvering of the bottom surface of the lever, otherwise perfect. Any pro's here who could estimate it's value for me?

I am by no means a Marlin 39 expert, and certainly not a pro. But the latest Blue Book, shows the Model 39 Carbine, "similar to 39M, with light barrel, 3/4 mag tube", manufactured from 1963-1967. In 100% condition, it is valued at $500, in 95% at $400.

..Thanks for that Mudstud. I'd say my gun is better than 95% but not 100%, so I'll figure it worth perhaps $450. I found a website that provides year of manufacture dates for these little Marlins. My serial number is prefixed by "AB" and was built in 1966 according to that info site. I'm not wanting to sell the little gun, to hard to replace.
....Seeing as how I bought the little gun, along with a S&W model 38 Airweight revolver (like new also) for $125.00 from a co-worker after her husbands passing (her price not mine)about 15 years ago, I believe I've done well! I felt I had at the time!

Anybody out there have a 39 carbine and willing to sell? I had one several years back, but sold it cause I was a broke, dumb college student. Looking for another.

....It's been awhile since this thread appeared, I thought I'd up date it. I traded off the little Marlin Carbine to a fellow who wanted it for his grandson's cowboy shooting. I swapped it for a Rossi model 92 crescent stocked 24" barrel half round/half hex, in .45 Colt. The Rossi is in 90% condition, and he sweetened the deal by adding $200 cash to the Rossi. I was happy to see the young shooter have such a fine Marlin to use on his cowboy shoots, grandpa was happy, and I've got a rifle I can use more often than I'd have ever used the cute little lever gun!

It sounds to me like all parties involved were very happy,,and that youngster has a very nice Marlin to shoot Injuns with.

I dunno, if I take $200 worth of food to the food bank or $100 of coats to coats for kids, have I screwed myself. Sometimes helping someone out is worth a limited sacrifice.

You should know that a Mountie, though not quite a "pearl of great price," might be close.

Ive got a Mountie and what a cool lil carbine it is and deadly accurate shot after shot.

My dad bought a 39a Mountie in the fall of 1954, with the intention of giving it to me on my 11th birthday. In early February he got sick so called me in and said "I'm going ahead and giving you this late for your 10th birthday". He passed away a week and a half later.

I shot the hell out of the little gun on sparrows, squirrels, rabbits, tin cans and gum balls for many years. Very accurate little gun. I gave it to my son (Shortactionsmoker) for his 10th birthday. It still shoots great and he has a son coming up who will likely get the gun eventually. Probably for his 10th.

Just felt like sharing that story...........

Two of my three granddaughters get mine. The other will have to settle for a Belgium made Browning. Not bad for third prize. Jack
