I have the opportunity to buy an Leupold M8 which from all descriptions has a 36mm Objective Lens. The dealer said the scope is mint and has (from what he describes) a target dot reticle. The scope goes for $200.

Can this reticle be used for hunting???

I have one with that reticle mounted on a petite Sako .17 Rem that is a tack driver and it is great for varmiting at typical .17 ranges (I have used mine out to 400 yrds) in full day light. The reticle fades with the lighting, but I have other rifles and scopes for those conditions so I like it a lot where it is at. For $200, you can certainly find a spot for it (a .17 HMR, .22 Hornet etc.).

Note that the M8 6x36 is not multicoated, although the one I have is pretty bright anyway.

I looked at the scope tonight and decided to take a pass on it. While the tube was real clean and pretty much mark free, the lenses were dusty and seemed to have a few marks on them. Every scope that I have bought from members here (10 or so) have been perfect.
