I agree, this sounds almost revolutionary (if it all proves out). I definitely want to try a pound. Thanks for posting and the links (good reads). Odessa

Toby gets samples to try and write up for his website, but not all that stuff makes it to production and distribution. It seems that each SHOT Show brings a new BP powder substitute that will revolutionize our world (remember BlackMag 3?). I am still dinking around out here with Pyrodex and H777 (you can actually get them).

I remember Black Mag 3 alright. Bought in bulk and still have some from the original maker, ARCO Powder. Still my favorite!

Hey, Randy, how is it going? Or Howzit in Africa speak? I will look for them at SHOT, and I will be happy if they actually get some of this powder into Southern California for us Left Coast ML shooters. jim

If my chrono is correct (and I'm pretty sure it is), your reported velocity for the 250 grain bullet/100gn blackhorn 209 is over 100 fps slower than what I'm seeing with 100 grains (by volume) of 777 ffg loose powder and a 250 grain bullet???
I'd like to try it, but I don't want to give up over 100 fps of velocity when I'm not having problems with loose 777.
Any idea of the price of the blackhorn 209???

I'm still liking my REAL BP. Doesnt' absorb moisture, easy to clean, low ignition temperature, fewer hang fires, etc.

I talked to Western's National Sales Manager at SHOT, and they are looking for a distribution arrangement for Southern California. We'll see how they do. jim

Sounds great, but expensive.Perhaps the reduced charge weight will balance it all out.I'd prefer a full pound for that money.

Goex/pyrodex is all i will ever use. No reason to switch to something so expensive.

Well, remember the velocities I clocked were with just 66.8 grains by weight. This is hardly a max. load for most of the better muzzleloaders; 120 grains (volume) is what Western suggests as a max load. The 66.8 grains actual weight is relevant as that is far more velocity / mass of powder charge you'll find with most BP and subs-- also 65 shots per 10 oz. bottle. Not just cheaper than pellets, but more accurate and no corrosion. The first completely non-corrosive, non water sucking bp sub means a lot. You can dial your own velocity, of course, but 100 fps at the muzzle means little at 200 yards.
