I am certainly no wine expert, but I believe they are from the same variety of wine, the 'gris' being what its called in France, and 'grigio' being what its called in Italy.
I could well be wrong, but I think thats the difference

That makes sense. I just picked up a Grigio, from Italy. There's got to be a domestic version too, I would think.

Mannlicher is correct. It's simply a linguistic thing. There are stylistic differences however. Look to Oregon for high quality domestic Pinot Gris/Grigio.
