I would like to retire to New Mexico if possible. I spent two years in the El Paso, Texas / southern New Mexico area and loved it (when I was in the Army). That was 35 years ago though so it may have changed. Thank you...

Hmmmmm, maybe to the Bahamas, set up a tax free corporation that rented corporate jets with certified disease free girls as attendants. Nah, I'd probably screw it up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Live where you have friends and family if at all possible.
If you dont have friends or family, it doesnt matter.

Personally, having no wife, no kids, few close friend that are older than me, and a few close relatives that are older than me, I expect I will move to somewhere I can practice my hobbies when I retire 20 years from now.

On the other hand, will I really ever truly retire. If I didnt have something to get me out of bed would I?

I love this place at night. The stars ... there's no right or wrong in them. They're just there.

If I could retire soon -I would continue to live in Alaska. I read about this place as a kid and always wanted to move here. About 6 years ago, my employer granted my wish for an expense paid relocation. There is lot to do and not enough time to see everything that is offered here. I tell my friends they will take me out of AK in a pine box. Everytime I visit the lower 48, it doesn't take long for me to remember why i moved here.

It's a lot better than when i used to live down south. Not nearly as many yankees moving here.........

Bogsters, you nailed it once again. I have looked about but don't see any place that really gets me going except the area in and around Bonaville Wa. That river really makes me want to be near it. This winter I am going back to the river to see if I really like it as much as I think I do. It is pretty hard to leave the old briney, But I have lived on or near the beach all my life, never farther than a quater mile from salt water. When I travel to the desert I just do not want to go home when it's hot I love it but not sure I would want a steady diet of working in the heat. I have lived in SE Alaska if were not for the rain that would be the place for me, we get plenty rain here they get more there. When I get down to it I think my retirement days may just involve six wheels a few rifles and lots of road maps, I would kinda like to make it down your way in a few years.

Wade we don't have room enough for both of us here in Union so perhaps we meet down at bluecreek and hash this one out. I will bring the jerky and sausage you show me how to catch them winter run ironheads. where you been hiding I was thinking of calling you a while back when the gunshow at Lewis co. Fairgrounds was on but got busy. How about the next one.

Well I've been retired a while, but just moved from Vermont to New Mexico. The winters finally drove us away along with taxes. The cost of living is much better here and I think I'll be very happy as soon as I learn all the ins and outs of hunting here, but I must say everyone has been very helpfull and VERY friendly. Didn't need to bring all my fishing stuff, but hey, been there done that, and still can travel to do it if I wish. I will be content hunting and shooting and exploring for a while. Life is good!
