I was just wondering how you came to determine max pressures for each of the loads you have listed on your pages? Thanks

You might want to ask this on Accurate Reloading's site.

I had tried earlier, but the site wasn't working for me. I'll try again.

Sometimes I just need someone to point out the simplest way to do things . I'm now awaiting an e-mail...

I found my answer on page 8c:

Quote
The highlighted powder in the selection area is NOT sacred, truth, fact nor absolute. It is the powder and primer combination I chose as best when I was reloading that caliber, with that bullet. It is based on three simple facts:

1) A "gut feeling";
2) Over 40 years of experience;
3) They worked just fine in the firearm I was testing.

Unfortunately the answer doesn't exactly fill me with confidence...

tod,

I am by no means a fan of his and believe he behaved poorly leading up to his exodus, although he may be opinionated and not always forthcoming, I would not call him a dumbass or ignorant. He has done far more reloading and development than I probably will in the next 20 years! He may have behaved like an ass while he was here ... but let's give prop's where prop's are do.

Turok,

Those three "gut" answers are his explanation of his favorite powder for each load, not his maximum powder charge.

John,

Then my question hasn't really been answered at all then.

His answers were always ignorant and idiotic. Some men can hand load all their lives and be as ignorant as the day they started (Ricadicadeli). Other's can hand load for a couple of years and learn vast amounts (anybody else). Ricky is not up on current bullets, powders or barrels. He is still stuck in the stone age on the vast majority of his "experience", Which I truly believe he stole from someone else. If he has TRULY done that much hand loading for so many different calibers, he would be less arrogant and MUCH more open to other's opinions and experiences. Even a blind squirrel will find a nut once in a while. In his case, he was lucky enough to get a good group "once in a while". I have no respect for him or "his" data. The way he talked down to everyone was a sure sign of ignorance and stupidity. Good riddens! Flinch

I don't trust the data he posts so I don't use it. I look at the other stuff he posts but take that with a grain of salt. His data is aquired by donations and I really don't know how one can put together that much data and not be rich. The testing that I have done costs me lots, because you use different powders and different primers to get the desired results. Plus the time it takes to do it. I doubt that he will answer you because when his data is questioned, he takes it personal and won't give a straight answer. I'm sure if he gave the answer that people would be more foregiving of him. But his arougance gets in the way and he just gives up. Stick to your manuals and you'll do okay. Rob Sr.

Gents. I think you're being a touch too harsh on my old buddy Steve. I've never found his data to be anything less than excellent, and, his pages are a great reference source.

PS - tod, did you get that 7 SAUM data I sent?

How may I ask did you come up with that his data is donated?? Do you know this for a fact or is this what you think??? Also how do you know he isnt rich???

Heck I have been loading for roughly 12 years and loaded 20-30 different calibers and by no means am I rich.. He has been loading for what 40 some years...

I have used his data more then once with excellent results.. To be honest I may still be looking for loads that work in my guns if it wasnt for his pages..

Hey, tb - I e-mailed it on Oct. 27. I got a "Mail not Delivered Because Tod's Mailbox is Full" message, but, sometimes those things are goofy. I'll try again. There's a bunch of good load data there.

PS - Steve asked me to tell everyone ..... hmmmm, I guess I can't say what he said, so, let's just say he sends his warmest (well, at least one of the places he mentioned is pretty warm) personal regards
