Seeing as how were showing Savage rimfires I thought I'd better start another thread and not take up someone elses. My 1905 just walked in the door so I took a group pic of the extent of my collection so far. In numerical order. 1905 1909 1911 1912 25 29A NRA 19-33

I think I slapped on a little to much snake oil with the shine coming off those bottom ones.

Ya, the bluing on the barrel isn't 100% but I'm happy with it for what I paid. I had to dispatch the rear sight and put one of my spare 21B's on it but no biggy. I was wondering if the one I took off was original the way it was lodged in there, didn't know if the brass punch was gonna hold out.

Ya, thats what I like about em to, I call them swiss plates.
Rick, 40890, does that seem low for a 1905? The spare 1905 stock I've got here is 105403, how many of these suckers did they make?

I only have serials on 10 of the 1905's and your new rifle is the highest serial.
The serial on your extra stock seem very high for a 1905.

Rick, the one I just got is a definite on the serial, the other spare stock might just be the last four numbers and the big ones might be an inspectors mark or assemblers mark then. This little beauty works great but I gotta get a correct 1912 mag to shoot more than once with it.

Looking at the sales records for the 1905, I don't see any sales after WWI. I would guess that your rifle is a very late production. Production might have ended about 1916.
What front and rear sights were on the rifle?

A little wee sucker, looks like the kind that were on the 1904 juniors.
I was just looking at the sales records to, wow, they put out alot more 1904's than the 1905's huh? Especially around 1912-1913.

Here's the rear sight I took off it, the front one matched this in size and the edges of the dovetail slot were still showing.

Yes, and even after WWI. I would guess most ended up in the scrape pile. For as many as were made you hardly ever see one and they seldom have any condition.

Hley Mad Dog: is it possible to get a close up view of the rear peep sight on your NRA 19-33? a few years ago i picked up a Tuype 99 Arisaka with a similar sight attached to the chamber - a real bubbaed up sporter. my sight doesn't have the windage know on the right side however, but sure looks similar. Thanks!

Might be wise to stick with the lower velocity (subsonic/standard velocity) rounds when shooting these older .22's.

Ya, I got lucky with the wood on that one, not a scratch on it but very dry, she already sucked up one helping of snake oil, I'm gonna give her another layer tomorrow.
I'll take your advice on the bullets, maybe even just shoot shorts out of her.

Which one Don, the old Marbles tang sight?
For some reason I get a crystal clear view of the front sight with that tang. Not sure if it's the distance or what but it's better than the NRA sight and I drive tacks with that one.
