Background

I recently purchased (back in Feb) the subject rifle. It is almost impossible to cock the bolt from shooting positions (rifle on your shoulder) -- it's like the cocking piece is galling on the bolt cam. When operating the bolt from the shoulder, the tendency is to push slightly forward and up -- it is virtually inoperable in this mode.

I've yet to fire the rifle.

I sent the subject rifle to Browning (Arnold, MO) with the following problem description:

The bolt cannot be cocked easily. It is difficult to lift the bolt and progressively more resistance is noticed the closer it comes to full cock. It becomes worse, the more times the action is cocked. This is by far and away the most difficult bolt lift (while cocking) of any rifle I own.

Please dont just lube the cocking cam and return the rifle there is something wrong with the bolt or the cocking piece or both maybe just tolerance stacking, but something is wrong.

The rifle was returned today noting that Minor Repairs were made. It is no better than when shipped. It is obvious that the only thing done was to apply a little lube or grease to the cocking piece and the cocking cam in the bolt even though I specifically stated in my letter that there was another problem.

This is a high dollar rifle, and I'm a bit frustrated.

Question:

Are bolts on Browning A-Bolt rifles this difficult to operate??

Paul

FWIW, my buddy has a Stainless Stalker and it has the smoothest bolt throw I've ever tried... right there with our buddies Nesika... scary I know.

I've owned many A-Bolts over the years and none were hard to work the bolt, all were super smooth. I would also be very frustrated as a Browning MTN Ti ain't cheap.....Good luck....547.

This is not normal...they may be a little harder to cock then a 90degree bolt throw rifle but not that hard.

Mine is smooth as silk - but it's not Titanium.

My Remington Titanium is rougher than the average Remington Bolt action - but the "grindy" feeling doesn't noticeably increase the cocking effort.

No experince with the Ti, but every Browning bolt action I have ever worked is slick as owl snot on a door knob.
