I have a good supply of 200 gr. 35 cal. bullets. Does anyone have a light 200 Gr. load they like in the Whelen--Say 2200-2300 FPS? I have plenty of full bore loads but could use one for practice and plinking.
Thanks, Kifaru

Get a can of RL-15 53 to 55 grains should put you close. 60 grains of RL-15 runs 2650fps and is very accurate.

+1 on the RL-15. 59 grns. of rl-15,Rem. full sized brass, Fed. primer and a hornady 200 SP loaded .020 off the lans gets me about 2640fps. This is out of a 21" lilja barrel. This load puts 3 touching @ 100 yards. Never killed anything with 200's but I don't see why they would'nt kill any N. American animal. Best at ya .. BP...

Thanks for the input guys. RL 15 is the easy answer too, being one of my favorites, with plenty on hand.

IMR 3031 makes another good combination with 200 grain bullets in the Whelen. I have used it for several Pennsy whitetails, (55.5 gr.)& accuracy was great, recoil minimal.

I started with 53.5 grs. of IMR 4064 for 2525 fps with a 200 gr Rem. bullet. This load shoots 1.0 - 1.25 groups at 100 yds. I am still in load development, trying to up the velocity, but IMR 4064 works well for me.

Q.Medium size case...almost no shoulder...light weight for caliber bullet, lowish velocity? A I know, I know, 4198 of course! Or as a fine replacement 2015. works well in Whelens, 416s and similar designs. Best Wishes, Bill

Now 4198 and 2015 sound interesting. I like yer line of reasoning.

I had a guy give me a box of 200 gr pointed Corelokt bullets. He said he loaded them for his .35 Whelen and they killed a couple of moose just fine.

Kifaru, My Hornady manual says that 51.5 grs if IMR 4064 gave 2300 fps with the 200 gr. in their rifle. 58.5 grs would give around 2600 fps which is plenty! I doubt a deer would ever know the difference. I killed a woodchuck with the Hornady 200 gr roundnose and it was pretty spectacular. The Speer 180's have killed deer for me as well. whelennut
