AR-15 before they became ASS-ault weapons...so I could have "Grandfathered" one in...of course I'm still thinking of moveing to a state where they can be bought & shot. Also regret not buying a 10/22 mag. before they went out of production.

H & H Double Rifle in .500 Nitro. In fitted case with paper work with it telling who bought it new in the early 1930's.

$3800.00, but this was back in the 70's. I had a good job at the time and could have borrowed the money. I still think about that rifle.

Some years a golfing acquaintence approached me about buying a rifle. He was not a shooter or hunter and knew I was. Apparently his brother had died years earlier and he had gotten the rifle at his brother's death, shoved it in the back of the closet and forgotten about it until finding himself strapped for cash and in the throws of a divorce. It was a really nice pre '64 Model 70 in 300H&H. He wanted $300.00! I told him he could get far more than $300 if he would just attend a gun show coming up in about two weeks but that I wasn't in a position at the time to give him anything like what the rifle was actually worth. I also told him about the Gun List, a paper through which I sold a great many guns myself. Well, later I discovered he had gone to a local Pawn Shop and gotten nothing for the rifle anyway. I guess the moral here is that no good deed goes unpunished.

That's a great one. I have the Browning version of it, but the authentic old Winchesters are going for a lot nowadays.

One gun (not a hunting rifle, though) that I've always regretted not buying when I could have was a pristine S&W Model 58 (N-Frame, fixed sight, four inch barrel, .41 Magnum service revolver) that a local gun shop had in its used handguns counter. They were only asking about $450.00 for it at the time, which was about eight years ago. I really wanted it, but thought the price was too high to justify buying it. Today, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat at that price.
