I have a Remington 700 long action and a McMillan stock and I can't decide what to build. I am leaning towards a 300 Win Mag or a .257 Weatherby Magnum. I already own a lightweight 300Win Mag and a .264 Win Mag. 7 mag is out I have two of these. I was also thinking about a 270 Weatherby magnum but I have a 270wsm. Help me decide.

Since you already have a .264, I'd say the .257 roy.

You like speed? you should try the 6.5/378 Weatherby with a telephone pole length tube.

Are we to assume that your action already has a .532 bolt face?

If so, the 257 Wby would be a speedy new caliber for you, and I have to agree with 91xlt, the 338 Win Mag is also a great choice.

If not, how about the 240 Wby?

I cannot knock the 270 Wby either. Just waiting for my new acquisition to get home. (And I also have a 270 WSM - but it shoots the 140 gr AccuBond's very well, and I want to try the 110 gr TSX, TTSX and AccuBond's in the Wby)

a 338 win mag would fit in

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

I really don't need a big caliber yet. The biggest animal I hunt is the occasional elk. 416 and 375 is a little big for my needs. Looking more for a flat shooting deer rifle that also doesn't punish you on the bench. 257 Wby would probably fit my needs the best.

Better question, what stock is it you have and do you have the action?

Then I would pick a type of rifle such as lightwight mountain, midwieight allarounder, or heavy varmit tacticool.
