I haven't trapped beaver and otter in 40 years but I have a dozen traps that I bought new back then and they are still hanging in my deer camp in L48.....I can't remember the number designation.....they are the old #4 Victor jump trap with teeth...I'm thinking they were referred to as 14s....Does that sound correct?.....Thanks....Vern

Vern, I never had any victor jumps, only B&L's (no teeth). The only traps I had with teeth were the Newhouse double long springs. The No. 14's were the same spread as the #4's, only with offset jaws....... If you have traps with teeth, they are worth more to a collector than they are to use. Here's a pic of a #14 NH I took for another thread a while back.Don

Yes, that does sound correct. I have a few of the 14 jumps left. One of the finest beaver traps ever made. Probably second only to the #14 Newhouse.

One thing you can check. If they are a true #14 Jump the jaws will be CAST Iron Jaws.

On the collectors market the 14s go for anywhere from $15 apiece to $50 apiece depending on their condition and the strength of the spring.

Vern,

Yup, they are #14's. One of the best beaver traps made, IMO. My very favorite was the 114 Newhouse.

I used to wire them to a rail road tie plate and when the #114 or #14 grabbed the beaver the tie plate took him to deep water real quick.
