I just picked up an 1894 Cowboy in 44 mag. The barrel is also rollmarked as "Limited". I've been trying to come up with the specs for this rifle but am confused. All I can find says it has a 20 inch barrel and a capacity of 10. Well, the barrel on mine is 24 inch. Is that what the "Limited" means? What is it's capacity and is there a magazine plug to remove if you want more than the 10 rounds.

Ok, thanks. Does the "Limited" rollmark mean anything? How can I get a date of manufacture? The only link I found is only good for rifles made up to 1990. Any idea on "listed" capacity for the 24" barrel/magazine? Does it have a plug that can be removed to increase capacity? I 'spose I could always loadi it up to find out what It'll hold.

Perhaps you've gotten answers by now, but if not, your 1894 CB ought to have come from the factory with a plastic plug in the magazine which limits capacity to 10. It can be removed. I do not remember what the increased capacity is. Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture can be determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100: Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [100 - 25 = 75].
