I thought I would post a photo of a big 6 point that I shot over the weekend on my lease in Roosevelt, Texas. Since he did not have brow tines he is considered a 'cull' buck by our rules. I haven't looked at his jaw yet to determine his actual age but by looking at his body he is at least 3-1/2....maybe older. At any rate, he is a nice buck and I thought some here may enjoy the photo. That's a great buck to cull. Looks fat too.

i agree with PDS, that buck looks to be in prime condition. did you have a chance to weigh him whole? are you feeding your deer? just during the season or all year long? when i used to hunt around Brownwood, the rut was pretty much centered around thanksgiving. same where you are?

Unfortunately, I didn't think to weigh him until he was already in the ice chest. We just recently got a scale and I'm not in the habit yet of weighing the deer. I can tell you he was tough to load in the truck though! We feed protein until just before season starts and then switch to corn. They were really starting to chase does pretty hard during Thanksgiving......it should be better in the next couple of weeks. Just for grins we put a tape to him and got some rough measurements....inside width was right at 20" and his longest mainbeam was 22".

Nice deer! Wish I could find a cull buck like that one. We've been running thin on deer the last few years up here.

nice buck anyway you look at it. thanks for sharing the photo. many of the deer on my land have weak or no brow tines. may need to do some culling also but they do not look like yours.

Nice deer. It just amazes me the difference between the deer in TX vs. what we have in the U.P. of Michigan. Judging by the picture, I'd guess that your deer is at most 125 lbs. dressed (I'm not knocking your deer, as that is a huge rack for up here). Our 1.5 yr old bucks can weigh that much, and are usually spikes or forks. By the time they are 3.5 yrs. they are usually between 175 and 190 lbs. dressed, but typically don't come close to yours in antlers (though they would typically be at least an 8 point).

It's a pretty good example of food/energy going into the body for survival vs. going into the rack.

Congrats again, and I hope that someday I'll be able to bring myself to "cull" a deer like that.

Haha, MAN THAT DEER IS TINY (or you're REALLY BIG)

I am used to the Canadian deer I guess!

Nice rack on him BTW

Yeah.....I know his body is tiny compared to ya'lls northern deer. I also know that here in Texas, or anywhere in the South, that when someone asks how big your deer was you answer with either the number of points, spread, etc. or give the B&C score. In the north ya'll typically answer with the weight as the primary answer.....horns, I guess, are a secondary consideration.

BTW, I pulled the jaw last eve and it appears he is at least 4-1/2 from my experience.

Flinch....believe it or not....no, I didn't. There are bigger deer on this ranch and I'm hunting one very wide (24"+) 8 point really hard. I saw him and photographed him in velvet this summer but I haven't seen him since season started....although a couple others have seen him recently.

Actually he did get scored by the guy that's doing the horn mount. He isn't an 'official' B&C Scorer but he came up with 124 4/8"

Not bad

to each is own but, to my way of thinking, that is a really nice 6 pt. brow tines would have put him in the mid-130's. I know texas deer are unique (well managed lands produce deer in the 150+ class with regularity) but that's a nice buck to me. good luck on the 8pt.
