With that said, I have three 700 Ti's and a Jarret accuarized 700 30-06 in my collection. Everything else is nula or model 70. I am not a huge 700 fan, but I do like them well enough. A friend has both a 280 and a 7mm mag KS, that I have shot a few times, seemed quite accurate and handled well.

I just picked up a nice older 700 KS in 300 Win mag. It is the matte or teflon finish. It has a 26" barrel with removable KDF brake, with thread protector. I won't be using the break. It has an olive green stock, appears to be a McMillan.

I paid $725.00, but with shipping and FFL fees, it will end up $780 total. I have seen the prices on these things sky rocket in the last couple of years. Thought I would work with this rifle all summer for a fun project.

Any opinions on the rifle, price I paid, loads you like, etc. Thanks in advance!

I have 3 ks's 2 in brown stocks & 1 in a Mcmillian. I hunt a lot with the 35 whelen. They are all sub 1" rifles & I think very well balanced. I think you paid a reasonable price if you throw away the KDF.

Man that is one of the nicest rifles ever made (at least to my mind), I'd abbreviate the tube to 23" and toss the break in the ocean and go forth and fill up an ark!

They are nice rifles, but the new ones are more than I care to spend on a "custom" factory rifle. with that being said, I would gladly give you what you have in it if you decide to sell, you did good.

Had a LH 280 I sold to a member here. Regrets, yup.

Bought it new in '93 IIRC. Great gun and a fair price at the time.

That's a GREAT price. I had one in a 300 Winchester - twas a handful but it shot very well. If it has an olive green stock, it was likely painted or it's actually gray and the color in the photo you saw was off a tad. I'd 86 the brake as well. Currently have three of them: 280, 30.06 and 35 Whelen, and I love all three. Hard to beat that stock, especially since I'm not a fan of the checkering on the McMillans. (though it hasn't stopped me ordering a couple ) The prices on them got completely out of hand before Remington discontinued them, that's when the Lil Sky became much more attractive to me.

Is the barrel a factory barrel? Don't remember them being made with a 26" barrel........at any rate, I'd trim it to 24" and it will feel & balance much better.

I've got one in 270 and I really like it; circa 1990 on mine....nice soft bead blasted finish in a McM stock.

I saw one in a 375 a while back, boy oh boy was that a nice feeling rig. I can just see it in Talley's and a 6x36 Leo with LR dots in it....

Add some 300 Accu's and go forth and fill up an ark....<g>

Thanks for the comments guys, I am encouraged. I had read that the KS barrels are from Remmy's better stock and are drilled and hand lapped in the custom shop. I also heard they have no safety markings on them. Never took notice on my friends rifles. It will interesting to see when it arrives.

I have lots of IMR 4350 and 4831 on hand, as well as quite a few boxes of 165 and 180 grain bullets from Speer and Hornady. Now I just need to look at loads.

KS barrels are selected from the early runs from new buttons in the factory, they are individually reamed in the custom shop. I have owner over a dozen & only had 1 that did not shoot out of the box. That 1 just needed to be glass bedded. The current production rifles are not nearly the rifle the old 1's were. I'll NEVER spend over $2k for a B&C stock.

I have a KS .280Rem that I have had since new, I think I got it in 1992 or 1993. Its been my go to gun since then, to me its been the perfect rifle - almost. I just had Karl do a Ti flute on the bolt, now its perfect I think anyway. It shoots less than an inch with factory Remington ammo, especially likes the 140 grain Accutip stuff. I wish I had a couple extra of the stocks, I'd do all my other Remingtons in them, love the stock.

I have one in 270 that I purchased new in about 1992-3. I think I paid about 8 bills. The rifle did have some issues, but Remington rebarreled the piece and all is well. I was a bit mystified about the metal finish. Sent Remington a note, with the serial number, asking about the finish. The rifle is Parkerized. I glassed it and installed a Jewell. Shoots bugholes with Sierra and accubonds.

That's good news. Sounds like those that own them, love them.

I had a .338 with Answer pad and removable break. Never used the break except to test it.

Sold it to Allen in Alaska to help fund a mission trip.

I really liked the Mcmillan stock. I like an open, thin grip on my rifles.

Used the Mtn Rifle pattern for my Mcstock on my Stevens 200.

Had 3 of them . An early 80's 7 rem mag which I should have never sold and more recent 280 and 7mm. rem mag. I dont' like the blind magazine feature but I like carrying them around . The new prices are a little ridiculous but you got a great deal at the price you paid.

Since we are talking KS Customs - does anyone know who built the stocks for those rifles and can they still be found anyplace?? In particular the stocks from the early 1990's to mid 90's guns. Were they maybe by Brown Precision stock?? Or??

McMillan made the stock. They've now gone to Bell and Carlson on their "North American Custom" and AWR II's......

You can find them periodically on GB or in the classifieds here but mostly they tend to stay with the metal they come with.....Too nice of package to split up....

Mark: That KS in 375 H&H is a genooine handful....to me anyway. Light gun for a 375, but some like it.

I did hear that Brown Precision made the very early ones.
