homer simpson}MMM MUSSSSEEELLLSSS{ homer simpsonEasily my favorite NW shellfish. The NW ocean/bay variety are black shelled with orange-ish and black meat. When I was on the coast,at low tide I'd say a few prayers re sneakers,(waves) clamber out on the jetty and snag a limit(150) in maybe 5-10 minutes. You can have the steamers,oysters etc,give me a big bowl of steamed mussels!

I love mussels, too, but they are the most common carrier/cause of PSP and just too dangerous here. Sea otters just go to town on them... What a waste...

Absolutely love mussells but just can not bring myself to eat any filter feeders caught off US shores. Just too much junk in the water for my taste. Still like them from New Zealand and Australia, when I can get them. The New Zealand variety are bright orange in a bright green shell and are HUGE!!!! Unlike most varieties, the big ones are still very tender. My mouth is watering now. Hope to make it back down under in the next few years for another batch! TM
Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~
