just got 100 of these bullets pretty cheap. i see most folks seem to like the nosl. 250's, but i like throwin' big rocks, it's only a 200yd. timber gun for elk. have any of you guys had luck w/this bullet? gonna stick with hodgdon powders (temp. insensitive) but not sure witch 1. i've heard 414 was ok. trying to get most of my guns to shoot w/2-3 different powders .243,.260,.270,30-30,30-06,.300,9.3, maybey later another .338. had good luck so far w/4350 & 4831. i'm thinkin 414 or varget would be a good one to add. just not sure about burn rates w/the bigger bullets. was it slower powder for bigger bullets? ...can't remember

let me give you boys a lil' tip. you might wanna turn off that engine 'fore you go and change that there fan belt!

Usually slower(not necessarily slowest)powder for the heavier bullets in each caliber. I'm waitng for my barreled action from Clearwater so I haven't done any shooting with the 9.3x62. I've been collecting any/all reload data I can find and the most often mentioned powders seem to be RL15,Big Game,Varget, and H414.
So what are you shooting? What barrel length?

I use Varget with 285 gr PRVI bullets and consistently stack them in one hole.

mine's a steyr mannlicher carbine 20" bbl. has double set triggers though, i'd much rather have the single set.

Rman, how do those PRVI bullets work on game? I've bought everything I need to reload the 9.3x62 but may just get the rifle together in time for hunting season so I bought a box of PRVI ammo to start with.
BR,what velocities are you getting with a 20"bbl?

414 won't be temperature insensitive.

I am hunting hogs on my place, but I haven't gotten to try them yet. I have 2 9.3x62 barrels for my Blaser R-93 (a 22.5" Attache' and a 20" Tracker), and both shoot the PRVI bullets into one hole at 100 yards.

thanks mathman didn't know that.
ezearl, don't know, i was hopin' you could tell me, i haven't got to shoot the 9.3 yet. haven't had time to sit at the load bench since the kid came along 9 months ago, picked up new rcbs charge master combo today, that should help save time. his gun already shoots 1/2".

If not exactly the same thing, 414 and 760 are kissin' cousins and are both old school ball powders.

BR,from what I've read you can expect to lose 15 to 20fps per inch of bbl loss. Finn Aagaard tested the 9.3x62 in a 23.6" bbled rifle. His velocities with the 286gr Partition were 2370 and with the 300gr A-frame 2262. When he decided to keep the rifle for himself,he cut the bbl back to 20". He then got right at 2300 with the 286gr and just over 2200 with the 300gr. He said 3.5" of bbl loss showed a velocity loss of between 60 to 70fps. By the way,his favorite powder was RL15.
