I hope that it never comes to the point in America that political power does come from the end of a gun barrel.

well all government figuratively get their power from "the barrel of a gun" any government in order to work needs a means of coercion. what good are laws if they can't be enforced. now enforcing laws that are fair and sometimes having to force people into line, (ie rapists, murderers etc.) requires force but there also needs to be force among the masses to prevent the few that are in power from using their big figurative "gun" to enforce unfair laws.
