Took a pard out last night to try and get his first bear and we got im hooked up. This buddy grew up on Hoonah and though he's killed his share of browns he'd never killed a black (no blacks on that island). This is no big bear by any stretch but she's a cinnamon and he wanted her badly, she had an amazing coat with no rubs what so ever and he decided he wanted to take her and so he did. Twas a bit concerning walking in to the bait seeing as we followed the tracks of a hog interior griz for almost a half mile and right into our bait. We werent on stand 20 minutes and this bear was down.I'll add that he was shooting a 30-06 with 180 grain CoreLoks and his shot was perfect blowing the heart in half, bear went 10 yards geisering blood the whole way. By the time I got to the bear (minutes) the bears entire mouth was white, bled out real quick.
A deep dark auburn cinnamon is the only bear hide I have ever lusted after. Tho a dark chocolate brown gizz second, but some distance back.
Forgive me, Jimmy Carter. I have sinned in my heart. I have a thing for human redheads in that auburn color phase also, and my wife knows it, even tho she isn't one.
