The good thing about the internet is folks are more educated and knowledgable about issues. The bad thing is facts and knowledge can be skewed to make any person or issue look bad. Times change as do issues, a position from eight years ago would change as the facts change, Eight years ago the tax cuts looked like a mistake, time has shown they were not. Any one who cannot change an opinion, after time has shown that opinion to be wrong, is the wrong person to be running this country, or any thing else.
I have had some reservations about the Rep[ublican candidate, but my opinion has changed over time, after researching the attatudes of Senator Mc Cain on differant issues. I have formed an opinion not based on what others try to force on me, but on the knowledge of Senator McCain that I have gained trough my own research.
Heck just looking on the two candidates, what they stand for and have stood for tell mewho the only person I can vote for is.
McCain has stood for the Values I have, and hold as American Values. Obama, wants CHANGE, carefully unspecified CHANGE,given his past record (what there is of it)and his statements about things like the SDecond Amendment, Abortion, and other social issues. That is way to much of a wild card for me to feel compfortable voteing for it, or by not voteing allowing it to happen.

The sad thing about this election is that it will change our way of life forever. Whoever appoints the next group of Supreme Court Justices will forever change the landscape of America. I have absolutely no confidence in either candidate that they will endorse the type of Justice's that will be needed in the future to maintain the constitution. Neither have value sets near mine in the realm of immigration, gun rights and the ability to turn the economy around especially since the economy primarily depends on OIL and both candidates are far too GREEN to remotely convince me they can change it. I know absolutely nothing about Obama basically because the press is so enamored with him we will never get an honest appraisal of him as either a man or a politician. I lived next door to McCain and knew both he and his Father. McCain has personal strength and many traits to be admired but this does not in any way convince me he will uphold the things I feel to be important to America's future and his record as a politician has done even less to convince me and I have followed his career very closely as ,one, I am from Arizona, and two,he is the only prominent national politician I have ever known. It saddens me. Always in the back of my mind is the fact that within my immediate past the second most powerful nation on earth completely disintergrated without a single shot being fired or a single prominent person being killed, just quietly actually with little fanfare. I am not egotistical enough to believe the same cannot happen to the United States. At age 74 I was sure this would not happen in my lifetime but now I am less confident. My confidence has been shaken directly because of the outcome of this primary period and I fervently hope my fears do not come to fruition. Just one old mans views.

The argument about judges is also suspect. They have to be vetted by the Senate, and it looks like the Dems will be making gains there this fall. McCain can attempt to appoint ultraconservatives, but they aren't likely to fair much better than Bork with a hostile and democratic senate - should McCain win the election.

More than likely should he win, McCain will 'cross the aisle', and we'll be seeing more David Souter type appointees.

When that clip was news....oh, half a year ago, it was demonstrated that yes, in fact he was right the first time and Lieberman was wrong. This is so old news....google al quida and Iran, I've already done it a couple of times and won't bother again.

if this is the best the handlers can do for Bambi-boy, he's worse off than I thought.

Already answered that, Tod. McCain's nominees will be Federalist Society originalists. Obama's will be socialist activists. The Senate will be whatever it is during his term....and different the second two years than the first.

So your point is its better to have your worst nightmares appointed to the courts, because there may be fights getting good judges confirmed? Is that your idea? Obama will put hundreds of judges on the lower federal courts, and probably two on the Supremes, if he gets in. We are still paying the price for slick Willie's horrible judicial picks....

I don't think McCain is going to end up being the conservative everyone thinks. Every election, both parties candidates play to the base until they get nominated, then rush to the center - a place that McCain seems most comfortable anyway. After the convention, I expect him to sound and act more like a Dem than a Republican. He brags about how often he's crossed the aisle, and now is trying to paint himself green. What next?

The whole political landslide has slid horribly to the left, and those that think McCain is the new Ronald Reagan, or anything vaguely close, are in for a horrible awakening.

And unless Obama wins and screws up horribly, I wouldn't bet on a big shift in 2010. I've a feeling that if the Dems achieve even moderate success, it may take a generation of voters before the pendulum swing back right. The Dems held the house for 40 years before the class of 94. Our side managed to hold it for only 12.

The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it.
-- P. J. O'Rourke

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
