The SAKO action pictured appears to be an S491, which did not precede the AI, but replaced it. The S491 was SAKO's first CNC action, and several design compromises were made to keep costs down, vs the AI design. In my opinion two design changes resulted in the S491 action being less desireable than the AI : a) the AI's integral recoil lug was replaced by an L shaped thick aluminum bracket which slipped over a small post on the underside of the S491 action. b) the S491 action is considerably longer, fatter, and heavier than the AI action. I have a SAKO S491 Hunter in 222 Rem., and it is a nice gun, but a gun based on the AI or L461 action would make a better walking varminter.
