Looking for a good load a little warmer than I load for my Sav 99 EG in 250. I am using 4064 in that one, but thinking maybe going to imr 4350 or imr 4831 in the remington with its 24" barrel. What are you guys using , and some accuracy/ velocity figures would be appreciated.
Thanks , Ken

I load for a 700 Classic and it loves H4895. Nosler's top load with a 100 grain bullet is quite accurate and crowds 3000 fps pretty hard, but it's a stiff max in my rifle under Bal Tips.

My Ruger does real well on H4895 and 100 Hornadys. Max load of 35 grains does 2900 in my 22" barrel.

Shoots little bitty groups from 2800-2900 fps with above combination. It's really easy to get slightly above 3000 fps when using IMR-4320 if speed is your thing but, mine are kept to 2820 fps with the 4895. Did I mention it shoots really small groups with that combo? ;-)

I've had really good luck with 90 gr Sierras and 4895, 100 gr BT or Sierras and 4320, all at max book loads. Both shoot itty bitty groups from my Win Mod 70 and I don't have to worry about running them through my pre-war 99 either.

If you're serious about souping it up, have you considered going to the 250-3000 AI?

You can't get enough 4350 or 4931 into a .250 case to give anywhere near the velocities of faster powders. A compressed load of IMR4831 only gives 2633 fps under a 100-grain bullet, according to Speer.

The powders that give the highest speeds in a 22" barrel will do the same in a 24" tube. My best loads for velocity and accuracy are with H4895 and Varget.

I have 2 rifles so chambered and both seem to like H-414 real well. I have a 15 inch Encore that likes H-4895 the best. The rifles are a Ruger 22 in bbl and an Encore with a 26 in tube. The Ruger does best with 87 gr Hornadys at about 3200 but the Encore loves 100 grainers at 2900. Coyotes and deer don't like either one of them,,,but I do

H4895

For deer:
87 grain Speer HotCores.

For coyotes:

90 grain Sierra BTHPs.
87 grain Speer TNTs.
75 grian VMax or Sierra HP.

For turkeys:

86 grain Remington SP (25-20).
60 grain Hornady.

Current favorites:

87 grain Speer TNT and HotCore, 'cause they do what they do well and they shoot to the same approximate POA.

Since Remington 700 Classics have 24" barrels and are rifled with a 1 in 10" rate of twist, the best way to get the maximum performance out of that platform with the minimal amount of cost/effort is to rechamber it to 25-284.

37gr of 4320 is the magic load for 75gr (3200fps), 87gr (3070fps), and 100gr (3003fps) bullets, all shooting small groups from a floated, bedded rifle. For more oomph, I eased up to 40gr of RL15 with 75gr Vmax @3415fps and groups as small as the 3200 fps load, 3shot groups at .4-.5". 37gr RL15 and the 100gr bullets shoots as fast as 4320. Ballistic tips group at .5-.6", Hornadys at 3/4". I put a M8 6x42 on it and use it for chucks to deer to my first pronghorn 6yrs ago. Enjoy! smile

I get excellent accuracy with 760 and Varget powders, and the two Speer 87 grain bullets along with Sierra's 90 gr HPBT.

Pix are of targets shot with a Rem 700 Classic, and a custom 250 with a Douglas bbl.
Top target is with the 700, and bottom is with the custom.

Thanks.
I do all bench shooting with a 20x scope to find the best load, then switch scopes.

Take care,

Don
