He did an article on this cartridge a couple years ago, in the July 2006 Rifle magazine.

Yeah, but that was more of a look at factory ammo, and practicla field use for the round.

I have been testing the .300 Wby. with new powders and bullets when I have had time recently, and will do a column on the results soon.

good thing about wby cartridges is that you can get good performance with factory fodder. love my 257, looking to add a 270

257Bob,
In fact, from time to time you still hear that the performance offactory loaded ammunition cannot be equalled with handloads. In any case, I think that nowadays most commerciaL ammo lives up to its advertiseed velocities. Years back it was a different story.

well, i do know that norma and wby dont hold back in their factory fodder. probably helps that there are not a lot of "old" wby rifles around by where the cartridge needs to be loaded to fit "all" rifles, not just the "modern" ones

Plus the stuff is accurate. At least in a good rifle. I have a 300 in a 700 with a #4 Lilja. Exactly 8.5lbs with scope and with Federal Premium 180 Nos SB or WBY 200gr Partitions it'll do 3/4". She is a keeper........

To the point that it often shows traditional pressure signs in factory rifles. I have noticed this with several Weatherby Mark V's .257's, two Remington 7mm Weatherby's, and a Remington and mark V 300.

I bought a 300 Weatherby about 6-8 months ago(I think the 4th one I've had). It shoots so well with the Federal ammo(180 Nosler Partition and Solid Base)I have not yet loaded a single round for it. Can't think of a logical reason to handload the thing. BTW, those factory loads ran 3150 over the chronograph.

The Weatherby 165 BT factory stuff ran over 3400 from my rifle(!),and yes, it shoots smile

Bob,
If your .300 Weatherby is so good with factory loads thihk how much better it will do with handloads!

John: Yeah, I've thought of that! Just have not gotten around to it, but I will.
