I'll be deploying to Iraq soon, and I'm kinda throwing around ideas for projects to work on when I return, and aquire parts for while I'm gone. One idea I am liking is making a 3 gun set, of which I already have one. I have a stainless boat paddle stock Ruger in 300WM that has been my go to rifle for a while. I was thinking of picking up one in 223, and building a 416 taylor. I know there is probably gonna be a 416 Ruger, but I like the idea of something a little different, and would like to have a wildcat project. So with all that being said, anyone know a good place to get a barrel and someone in CO to do the work? Any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Go to ER Shaw for a bbl, any good gunsmith can headspace it on your 7mm Mag or 300 Mag action. Go to www.doubletapammo.com for properly headstamped factory loads for it and go hunting. I love mine!

Were I to build another 40 something (that would be the fifth) it would be a 411 KDF (or similar). Great bullets in 411 and everyday quality bullets and for some very good reasons 41 magnum pistol bullets can be used for less than bear dooins. Nothing but serious bullets for the 416s.

Been doing a lil thinking, since this is all just planning right now, would it be better to do like a 416 ruger instead on this action, just looking for some opinions on this, all are welcome, although they may not be used! LOL

I love my .416 Taylor. Easy to load for and fun to shoot. My rifle with scope weighs 9.5lbs. Recoil is sorta in-between the .375 and .458. Shoots as flat as the .375 when using 300gr barnes X bullets and shoots them over 200fps faster with no problems. The 400gr partitions are very accuarate out of this gun and I even used one on a whitetail to bloody it. My normal load is the 400 at 2350fps. reflex264

.416 Taylor a lot of fun, and hard to argue with over 4 feet of moose penetration. Not a good picture but here is mine on LH Ruger 77 Kevin
I have "CDO". It is just like "OCD" except the letters are in alphabetical order LIKE THEY SHOULD BE!

Tell us more about that Ruger .416. I'm a LH shooter too, and shortly I am going to be sending my Ruger 7RM off to be a Taylor as well.

Get excited, read the articles on the Taylor from Rifle by John Wooters and Bob Hagel, and Handloader by Ken Waters. I think it was the pictures of Mr. Wooters with his lion and buffalo that locked me in on the Taylor. I always liked the idea of owning only one gun, so I put a whole series together, a 22/250, 257 Robts(2), 30/06(2), 35 whelen, and a 416 Taylor, all on Ruger Mk I actions. I was really surprised at how gentle the Taylor is. I generally shoot about twenty rounds through her during a range session. I did put a good pad on her. With its Shaw barrel, it tears one hole five shot groups at fifty yards. Mine only weighs about 8 1/2 pounds. Sorry, the picture got a little blurry when I compressed it. She's about to go get an upgrade to express sights and barrel swivel added. Bfly

I built a full blown Custom in 416/375 Ruger and in fact it is for sale on the classifieds on 24 hour..pictures recently included. Now I intend to make a 404/375 Ruger and see what it churns up..
In my opinnion the 416 Ruger (soon to be a factory round) is an outstanding caliber and my gun with a 20 inch barrel will duplicate my .416 Rem. with less powder and in a shorter action, or rather a std. action and shorter magazine. The Ruger .375 case is going to be a success IMO...It has a lot to offer and its not belted if thats a problem with you..
It should replace the .416 Taylor alltogether IMO..and a Taylor could be opened up to a .416 Ruger real easy and at low cost.
