700 tag for me too. I believe the gear list to look like this: 257Wby primary and 243 Montana as backup. Should be a fun trip. I haven't hunted Antelope since I was 12 and my pard hasn't ever hunted big game anywhere other than the 3000 acre lease his family has had in Tx for 30yrs.
Gonna need some new grassland maps (grin).

The bob with 110 gr. AB will get the call on this trip. Think I'll take the swede along as well just for grins.

I'm thinking about using my pre-war 6.5x54 Kurz Mauser with open sights. It shoots to the sights at 100 yards with 120 gr Speer HC's at 2600 fps. And it has a 200-meter folding leaf... . I think it would make the hunt pretty sporting. Dennis

It will be in a case behind the seat of my pickup. One reason I spend the $$ to go on the AMHS ferry from Ketchikan to Bellingham. By the time I would fly and rent a vehicle for five weeks, it would also cost more to fly. And I couldn't take as much gear with me... . And, this is an honest hunting rifle, not a safe queen. All of my pre-war Mausers and my Mannlicher-Schoenauer are hunters, though they have modest collector value. I bought them to shoot them, not show them, and I don't care if I add a field nick or two while doing it. Fine rifles deserve no less from their owners, just like good hunting dogs. Dennis

Character marks earned afield are to be worn proudly. Scratches, dings, and dents caused at the hand of some baggage handler beating your stuff up just because he/she can is unacceptable and should allow you to shoot the SOB!

Agree...that may be one reason they don't let us carry concealed on board the aircraft . I muchly prefer driving, even if does require a 37-hour ferry ride to America. Lots easier on my dog and my gear, and I get to bring more of it. Dennis

It's a nice drive to boot. Luv the scenery.
Which route will you take from B'ham? I-5 to I-405 to I-90? or you gonna try the northern pass?

I took the northern route + last year, because I needed to go through Colville and pick up a gunsmithing job from Jim Dubell. The road from Colville to Spokane bordered on interminable... . I'm sure I'll run down I-5 to 405 to 90 and go across -- it's the quickest route, and my only intent for that day is to get from Bellingham to Missoula. The added advantage for me is that I can drive more than 30 miles in the same direction... . Dennis
